Making wine from start to finish
This is a small family winery, the same as always. A humble winery that makes wine from start to finish. With the love and care that the people of the countryside have for the products they grow.
The winery is located in the region of Pobladura de los Oteros, cradle of the Pietro Picudo, being the third generation of artisan winemakers. They make wines in a natural way without using chemicals or make-up. Always respecting to the maximum what nature gives them and trying to improve it, making them drinkable by mouth and sharing them with all those who know how to value the natural, the traditional, the flavours and the respect for things well done as our grandparents did. This is something that Joaquín Garrido has been doing for many years now, the main driving force behind it, to which he has dedicated his efforts to this exciting and diverse world of wine.
Nowadays it is his daughter Silvia Garrido together with his partner Javier, who have given the definitive impulse to the commercialisation and expansion of his wines. Both are in charge of the work in the vineyard as well as the elaboration and commercialisation of the wine that they make in the traditional way using the “madreo” technique for the rosés.
Excavated in the clayey soil typical of this area, which makes the existence of these typical constructions possible. It is developed in several excavated buildings where the tanks for wine production and the oak barrels for the red wines are located. This type of construction allows the wines to be kept at a constant temperature of 14º throughout the year, which facilitates their fermentation and subsequent conservation.
The winery produces Prieto Picudo rosé, Albarín white and the most recent addition is the maceration red under the auspices of the León DO. A production technique that allows the wine to retain all its fruity essence provided by the Prieto Picudo grape.
The winery is open to all those who are interested in learning how work is carried out in a traditional winery. Inside you can find old working tools for winemaking as well as two presses where the grapes were trodden.
