It will close next month with the historic February Fair in Valencia de Don Juan, return to IFEMA with Gourmets and organise its participation in Winemad, again in Madrid
The opening of Fitur on Wednesday, which will continue at IFEMA in Madrid until next Sunday with three days for professionals only and two for the general public, opens the season of major international trade fairs for the León Designation of Origin, which in the next two weeks will take its wines and wineries to Madrid Fusión and Barcelona Wine Week-2026.
Invited once again by the Provincial Tourism Consortium (Turisleón), which combines the promotional efforts of the Provincial Council and the City Council of the capital, the Regulatory Council of the DO León will once again serve its institutional wines at the closing cocktail party of the official presentation of León’s tourism proposal, which is structured around three themes: the Gaudí Year, commemorating the centenary of the death of the brilliant architect; the opportunity for tourists to watch the eclipse on 12 August from the clear skies of the province; and the celebration of the Urraca Year, marking the 900th anniversary of the death of the Queen of León, the first sovereign in her own right in Spain.
Once again this year, the León Designation of Origin is offering a tasting of its Albarín and Prieto Picudo wines to professionals participating in the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies assembly.
Without leaving IFEMA, although in different pavilions, the most influential summit in world cuisine will open its doors next Monday. At Madrid Fusión, organised by the City Council of the capital, the DO León will have a continuous presence at the Saborea León stand, in the Saborea España macro-space, where its generic wines will accompany tastings of the most representative products from the León pantry. In addition, the Regulatory Council will host two activities in the lively Wine Classroom: on the 27th, under the title “Rosado y Picudo, sabor auténtico de León” (Rosé and Picudo, the authentic flavour of León), with a tasting of three rosés of different styles and colour ranges, and on the 28th in “Intensamente León” (Intensely León) with a series of blind tastings of white and rosé wines, naturally made from Albarín and Prieto Picudo grapes.
Just a few days later, on Monday 2 February, Barcelona Wine Week will be showcased over three intense days as Europe’s premier wine event. In this case, five wineries will represent the León Designation of Origin, two of them (Pincerna and Noelia de Paz) in the general space of the Regulatory Council and three (Pardevalles, Tampesta-Andrés Marcos and Gordonzello) with their own stands.
Before the end of the month, the DO León will have another key annual event at the 105th edition of the historic February Fair, which will be held in front of its own headquarters in Valencia de Don Juan, with a continuous presence and activity over the three days (19th to 21st). And that’s with Gourmets in sight (13 to 16 April, again at Ifema) and Winemad (27 to 29 May, at the same venue) as a new target. Madrid is launching this new fair with the idea of positioning itself very high on the international wine calendar and, given its geographical centrality and capacity to attract visitors, it represents a magnificent opportunity.
The León Designation of Origin will attend three major international trade fairs in three weeks: FITUR, Madrid Fusión and BWW-2026
