Fifteen wineries attached to the Regulatory Board, which represents a very important participation, will exhibit for three days at the Wine Fair of the León Designation of Origin the quality of their whites, rosés and reds and the ‘excellent’ achieved for the qualification of the 2024 vintage. This essential event, which reaches its twenty-third edition, will once again bring together thousands of visitors in the Jardín de los Patos, in Valencia de Don Juan, between July 25 and 27. The DO León has the co-organization of the City Council of the town, headquarters of the Regulatory Council, for what will be, without a doubt, the most multitudinous call of all the summer activities offered by the regional capital.

In this edition, the fair will be attended by fifteen wineries attached to the Regulatory Council, which will present their white wines of the Albarín, Verdejo and Godello varieties, and rosés and reds from Prieto Picudo of the 2024 vintage, which on May 30 achieved the qualification of ‘excellent’, as well as special elaborations from previous harvests. Attendees will be able to enjoy the exceptional organoleptic qualities of around eighty different wines from the following wineries: Pardevalles, Cooperativa Comarcal, El Sueño de las Alforjas and Tampesta-Andrés Marcos, all four from Valdevimbre; Los Oteros Cooperative and Margón, both from Pajares de los Oteros; Vitalis, from Villamañán; Gordonzello, from Gordoncillo; Peláez, de Grajal de la Ribera; Vinícola Valmadrigal, de Castrotierra de Valmadrigal; Solotero, de Cubillas de los Oteros; Cien Cepas, from Corbillos de los Oteros; Bodegas Pobladura, de Pobladura de los Oteros; Pincerna, from Grajal de Campos, and Melgarajo, the popular winegrowers’ society that operates in Melgar de Abajo, in the province of Valladolid.

These fifteen wineries represent a very representative presence of the territorial diversity of the León Designation of Origin and the different production criteria and techniques, as well as the oenological quality of the wines made from the native grape varieties Albarín, the majority in the case of white wines, and Prieto Picudo.  essential for rosés and reds, both young and aged, and even some of longer and more complex production, already classified as Reserva or Gran Reserva. In addition, for the second year at this fair, visitors will be able to enjoy the very commercial and characteristic sweet and semi-sweet wines with low alcohol content, but already certified by the Regulatory Council after the modification of its specifications.

The program will open on Friday 25, at 11.30 am, with the contest to choose the best wines represented and whose results will be announced late on Sunday afternoon. The fair includes in its usual musical entertainment proposal the popular DJs Nostra Notte, who will return to the atmosphere on Friday night, and for Saturday night the flamenco show ‘Dancing around the world‘, this one within the Nights of the Castle program. There will also be a morning entertainment activity for children – the popular Coyanza Junior Chef – an exhibition of graffiti art on barrels and, during the three days, a beauty bar and even the possibility of personalizing the glasses. In addition to the family character, the fair also has a solidarity vocation due to the presence, usual in the informative activities of the DO León, of the association of relatives and Alzheimer’s patients of Valencia de Don Juan. Alcordanza will raise funds to contribute to the financing of its social work through donations at a stand where they will offer water and basic foodstuffs.

The fair activity will begin at 12:00 p.m. on the 25th, and at 1:00 p.m. the official opening will be held in the presence of regional, provincial and local authorities. The stands of the wineries and for the sale of glasses and tokens will remain open every day from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 20:00 to 23:00. The fair in Valencia de Don Juan, a town that hosts the headquarters of the DO León as the geographical centre of the production area, is the promotional initiative of reference for its wines, as it brings together winegrowers, winemakers, oenologists and thousands of end consumers who make this great festival the activity with the greatest convening power of the town’s summer leisure programme.
