Meóriga, Pincerna, Melwa, Valmadrigal, El Sueño de las Alforjas, Gordonzello, Pardevalles, Vile and Vitalis have triumphed with Albarín whites and Prieto Picudo rosés and reds
Twelve medals, in addition to the twenty previously won, represent an excellent result for the wines from the wineries affiliated to the Regulatory Council of the León Designation of Origin that competed in the second round of major national and, above all, international wine competitions. One Grand Gold, six Gold and five Silver medals, as well as three honourable mentions, highlighted in these wine competitions the excellent oenological qualities of the wines made from Albarín and Prieto Picudo grapes and the quality of production by the technical departments of the wineries Meóriga (Mayorga de Campos), Pincerna (Grajal de Campos), Valmadrigal (Castrotierra de Valmadrigal), Gordonzello (Gordoncillo), Vitalis (Villamañán) and Vile, Pardevalles, Melwa and El Sueño de las Alforjas, the latter four in Valdevimbre.
The Concours International de Lyon, a favourite event for the Mayorga de Campos winery, added two gold medals to Meóriga’s extensive list of awards with the Tiramulos Albarín and Esencia 33, both made from the same grape variety and both from the 2025 vintage. The third gold went to the red Don Suero Reserva 2018, from Vinos de León-Vile. The demanding Mundus Vini awarded a silver medal to recognise Pincerna’s excellent winemaking expertise in its Fáfila Petriz, a 2024 Albarín of highly complex production that explores the qualities of this unique and exclusive variety, which is bringing enormous prestige to the whites of the DO León. Vinespaña, the competition organised by Spanish winemakers, awarded Melwa twice: a Grand Gold for the Valle Gudín Rosado 2025 and a silver for the red Valle Gudín Crianza, both made from Prieto Picudo grapes.
Atlantic, the competition reserved for wines of this character from the wine-growing regions of the north-west of the peninsula, selected its best rosé and awarded a gold medal to the Pincerna 2025, once again from the already highly acclaimed winery located in Grajal de Campos.
The prestigious Bacchus Awards have recognised the excellence of the debutant Vinea Noctis 2025, a premium rosé which, having already secured a place at the top of the podium, serves as a testament to the enthusiasm, tenacity and technical skill of the team at Vinícola Valmadrigal. The same applies to El Sueño de las Alforjas, which has further enhanced its enviable track record, this time with a gold medal for the red El Sueño de las Alforjas, a long-aged organic wine—like all the winery’s wines—from the 2022 vintage. The silver medal on this occasion went to a white wine, the Peregrino Albarín 2025, from the Gordonzello winery. Finally, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the travelling competition considered one of the most influential internationally, concluded its session dedicated exclusively to rosés with silver medals for Gurdos and Peregrino, both from 2025 and from the Gordonzello winery, also awarding honourable mentions to Pardevalles (Pardevalles), Tiramulos (Meóriga) and Vitalis (Vitalis). At this event, 57 international tasters blind-tasted 1,100 wines from 33 countries over three days.
